Travel News
The Glen Ellyn Phillies All-Star Travel Program currently has three levels of team, 10U, 12U and 14U.
Additional teams could be formed to play in 3-4 late June and July Tournaments if enough qualified girls are interested and a qualified volunteer coach is available. The teams would require pitching and catching. Anyone interested in All-Star post house league travel should contact your House Leage commissioner or the head of travel via e-mail as soon as possible. See web-site for e-mail address.
Tryouts 2010
Phillies Full Season Tryouts will be held August 14 and 15, please check here for updates and times.
Players interested in playing on a full time Phillies travel softball team will need to attend tryouts on either August 14th 8am or August 15th 12:00 noon 2010 at Ackerman Park in Glen Ellyn. You are not required to attend both days, but it is optional. There are positions available at all age levels from 10U to 18U. Returning Phillies players are required to tryout. Positions are not guaranteed from year to year. The cutoff date for an age level is 12/31/10. For example if your daughter turns 13 on or before 12/31/2010 she would have to tryout for 14U. If your daughter turns 13 on 1/1/11 or later she is still eligible for 12U. Tryouts may last 3 hours depending on the number of attendees. Running, hitting, catching, and throwing skills will all be tested. The pitching and catching portion of the tryout will be held at the end. Therefore if you are not trying out to be a pitcher or a catcher you will be finished earlier. Please make sure your daughter brings all necessary gear to tryout (glove, bat, cleats, etc.). A full time Phillies season would involve some practices and games in September and October. Indoor winter practice will start in January and continue through the beginning of March. The outdoor season will start around April 1st and consist of practice 2 to 3 times per week and 7 to 10 tournaments on weekends from April through July. A typical full time team will play around 55 to 60 games. Most games and tournaments are local but some travel may be required based upon age and skill level of the team.
Part time tryouts will be held in September, date TBD. Part time Phillies players are required to play in the Glen Ellyn Park District House League. We are still looking for part time coaches at the 10U and 14U levels. If you are interested please contact Travel Commissioner Brad Steinhilber at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
The number of teams at each level will be established based on several factors, including qualified Coaches and number of qualified players.
